I received a call telling me that the 104 year old Ella Waydelin was in hospital. So I charged up to the JR in Oxford as quickly as I could, took the lift up to the 7th floor, headed down the very long corridor only to hear the insistent chinking of a walking frame coming in the opposite direction. The 93 year old Muriel had beaten me to it and was on her way out. She’d heard the news, got straight on a bus to the hospital, and found her way to the top floor, walking frame and all, in order to visit Ella and check that she was OK.
